Common Use
Motilium blocks peripheral and central dopamine receptors removes inhibiting influence of dopamine on motor activity of gastrointestinal tract and increases evacuative and tone of stomach It has antivomiting effect soothes hiccup and nausea Motilium is used to treat vomiting of different origin hiccup atonic gastrointestinal tract necessity to accelerate peristalsis for Xray examination dyspepsia caused by slow stomach gastroesophageal reflux disease esophagitis gas heartburn with or without passage of gastric contents into the mouth
Dosage and Directions
Take Motilium orally 30 minutes before a meal In adults and children older than 5 yo take 10 mg 3 to 4 times a day when dyspepsia is diagnosed In patients with severe nausea and vomiting Motilium daily dose is 20 mg 3 to 4 times a day In patients with kidney failure correction of the dose is necessary number of daily intakes should not exceed 1 to 2 times This is only general recommendations and for each individual case consult your doctor as different conditions require different correction of the dose
Precautions
If you are pregnant or think you might be pregnant first consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking Motilium or any other medicine Do not take Motilium if you are breastfeeding
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity bleeding in gastrointestinal tract mechanical intestinal obstruction perforation of the stomach or intestines prolactinoma infancy younger than 5 yo and ones whose weight is less than 20 kg Caution should be experienced in patients with renal or hepatic insufficiency during lactation pregnancy
Possible Side Effect
Among most common side effects these can occur transient spasms of the intestine allergic reactions such as skin rash or urticaria hyperprolactinemia galactorrhea gynecomastia
Drug Interaction
Cimetidine and sodium bicarbonate reduce effects of Domperidone Anticholinergic medications neutralize effect of Motilium Blood levels of Motilium are increased by azole antifungal agents macrolide antibiotics HIV protease inhibitors nefazodone antidepressant Motilium is compatible with antipsychotic neuroleptic medications dopamine receptor agonists such as bromocriptine and Ldopa Simultaneous treatment with paracetamol and digoxin had no effect on the concentration of these medications in the blood
Missed Dose
If you missed a dose take it the soonest If it is almost time of your next dose just skip it and return to your regular dosage schedule
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include drowsiness disorientation extrapyramidal disorder especially in children If you think you took too much of Motilium and experience symptoms listed above contact your doctor immediately you may need medical help
Storage
Store at room temperature between 59 and 77 F 15 to 25 C away from light and moisture kids and pets
