Common use
Tamsulosin is used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also known as benign enlargement of the prostate (BEP). This medicine helps control symptoms, reduce urinary retention, and lower the risk of needing surgery.
Dosage and direction
Take Flomax by mouth with a glass of water, with or without food. Do not cut, crush, or chew the medication. Consult your doctor to determine the proper dose for you.
Precautions
Before taking Flomax, inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to Tamsulosin or have other allergies. Since this medication can be absorbed through the skin, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should avoid handling it.
Contraindications
Flomax should not be used by women or children, or by patients who have shown hypersensitivity reactions to Tamsulosin.
Possible side effects
The most common side effects include dizziness, unusual weakness, drowsiness, trouble sleeping, blurred vision, runny nose, and problems with ejaculation. Stop using Flomax and contact your doctor immediately if you experience a painful erection lasting 4 hours or longer, severe dizziness, or fainting. Serious allergic reactions are rare. Drug interaction
No clinically significant drug interactions have been identified. However, inform your healthcare provider about all prescription, nonprescription, and herbal products you are taking before using this medication.
Missed dose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take two doses at once.
