Generic Levitra

Common Use
Levitra is an oral medication used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Sexual stimulation leads to the release of nitric oxide from nerve endings in the cavernous bodies of the penis, which activates the enzyme guanylate cyclase. This enzyme is responsible for the production of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), which causes the relaxation and widening of blood vessels that carry blood to the penis. Levitra works by preventing the phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) enzyme from breaking down cGMP, thereby helping to sustain blood flow to the penis and support an erection.

Dosage and Direction
The recommended starting dose of Levitra is 10 mg, taken approximately one hour before sexual activity. Depending on efficacy and tolerability, the dose may be increased to 20 mg or reduced to 5 mg. Levitra should not be taken more than once per day. The medication can be taken with or without food.

Precautions
Levitra has not been adequately studied in patients with significant cardiovascular conditions, so it is advisable to avoid its use in individuals who have had a stroke, heart failure, or a heart attack, particularly if these events occurred within the last six months. Before using Levitra, inform your doctor if you have any of the following conditions: kidney or liver disease, a bleeding disorder, stomach ulcer, an inherited eye condition such as retinitis pigmentosa, an allergic reaction to Levitra or similar medications, any penile deformation including angulation or Peyronie’s disease, or disorders that may lead to priapism such as sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, or leukemia.

Contraindications
Levitra is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients. It should not be used by patients who are currently taking organic nitrates due to the risk of severe hypotension. It is also not approved for use in patients under 16 years of age or those taking HIV protease inhibitors such as indinavir or ritonavir.

Possible Side Effects
Levitra is generally well tolerated. Common side effects include headache, facial flushing, dizziness, nasal congestion, nausea, and diarrhea. Less common side effects may include photosensitivity of the skin, elevated or reduced blood pressure, back pain, watery eyes, muscle pain, and in rare cases, priapism (a prolonged and painful erection). Most side effects are temporary and mild to moderate in severity.

Drug Interaction
Levitra may interact with several medications. Its metabolism is slowed by drugs such as erythromycin, ketoconazole, itraconazole, indinavir, and ritonavir, which can increase the concentration and effects of Levitra. Levitra may also reduce the levels of ritonavir and indinavir. When taken with nitrates, Levitra can significantly lower blood pressure and potentially worsen chest pain. It can also enhance the blood pressure-lowering effects of alpha-blockers like terazosin. Levitra should never be used in combination with any form of organic nitrates.

Missed Dose
Levitra is used as needed and not on a regular daily schedule. Therefore, a missed dose is not applicable. Do not take more than one dose in a 24-hour period.

Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include back pain, jaw or arm pain, chest discomfort, blurred or decreased vision, and in severe cases, sudden loss of vision. Seek immediate medical attention if an overdose is suspected.

Storage
Store Levitra at room temperature between 15 to 30°C (59 to 86°F), away from heat, moisture, and direct sunlight. Keep the medication out of the reach of children and pets.
